Blog 7 Chapters 18-21 Queston Choice 3

I think this this book relates to race and coming of age. Race is an obvious one because the south was very into segregation. Like they convicted a black man even though the evidence was right in front of them that it was bob Ewall. This shows that people in that time were very against blacks and would go against the truth and say he was guilty. White people back then had the power in anything wether it be law or day to day life.
This book to me also has a lot to do with age and how it changes people. Jem at the beginning of the book was very close to scout but as he got older they started to fight more and grow further apart. Also Atticus is  old so he cant fight back at Mr. Ewall and do things with his kids that he wish he could or that would be more fun.

Journal #6 Question Answer Set C

If Jem and scout had a mom things would be very different. I think that there mom would have scout be more female like not as tomboyish. The kids personalities would be changed to because they would have a mom not just a mom figure in their lives.  Calpurnia wouldn't be there either.  Which would change a lot of things too. Like having a negro in their lives. So there maybe stereotypes that they would have never learned were false.
This could cause them to be racist when they really aren't. This would be a bad thing. Also if cal. wasn't there then Atticus might not be trying to defend Tom Robinson. I imagine atticus would be different to.  I think he wouldn't be as freely about what Jem and Scout do. Jem would be a little different he has always been missing something and it has to relate to his mom.
In all I think that if Jem and scout had a mom things would be a lot different and for the worse.  They would be racist scout would be more female like and Jem would be different.

Journal #2Chapters 4-7 Perspective of Scout

Dear Diary
 A couple days ago I passed the Radley house and I suddenly stopped and looked at what was in the tree. and i found some gum. So i took it and started to chew it. When i got home Jem saw me chewing something and asked me what it was and i said it was gum.He asked where and i said the Radley tree right that second he told me to spit it out because it might be poisons. After that every day i would look in the tree and find random things.Like cards old penny's and soap carvings of people/ Then a couple of days later Nathan Radley found out and plunged the hole with cement. I am assuming he figured out that Boo was giving us things Atticus told us to stop playing our games and that really sucks because i loved playing games with Boo. We also weren't able to get a note to him to ask him to play. It was really scary when Boo took out a shotgun and almost shot us he thought that we were black people trying  to break in to his house. Next time he said he would shoot us.       

Journal #3 Chapters 8-9 Perspective of Ms. Maudie

Dear Diary.
Yesterday it really started to show signs of winter. It reached record lows for maycomb since 1885 . The snow was watery and very light. Then i saw Jem and scout outside building a snowman first they asked me if they could borrow my snow and I said of course! Then i saw them build a morphodite snowman. It looked a lot like Mr. Avery! Later that night i went to bed. When i woke up all i smelt was smoke then i realized that my house was on fire! So i got up and rushed out and called for help. Once the whole town was up the men started getting everything they could out of my house. Then i spotted Jem and scout standing in front of the radley place. When my house was down it almost started to spread but all the men on the roofs stopped it. Once it was all over everyone went home and i could finally be happy that my house was burnt down because i hated that old cow barn. Then Jem and scout came over to say sorry for burning my old sun hat they told me about how boo radley came out of his house to give scout a blanket. We all thought if they turned around they could have seen him.

Journal #1 Chapters 1-3 Perspective of Scout

When my brother was 13 he broke his arm and when it healed he was very happy that he could play football. I lived with my brother Jem my dad atticus and our cook calcurnia. I hated calcurnia we always fought and they would usually be won by her because atticus would side with her. She has been with us since Jem was born. My mother died when i was 2 so i never really got to know her. I didn't miss her but i think Jem did. Jem was born the first year of there marriage and i was born 4 years later.
That same summer we met Dill. He dared us to get boo Radly out of his house Boo Radly was a very creepy and scary man who lived next door to us. Dill told my brother that he was a scardy cat and was a wimp for not going onto the yard. My brothers excuse was that if he wasn't there who would take care of me. But after enough name calling by dill, Jem finally took the dare.
The first thing that we did to get boo out of his house was to go on his yard. When that didn't work we threw rocks at his window. He still didn't respond.
That year was also my first year of school. When Ms. Caroline learned that i could read she was very mad and said that my dad needed to stop teaching me and saying that it was wrong the way he was doing it.

Quote 1“These days I live in three worlds: my dreams, and the experiences of my new life, which triggers memories from the past.” Page 20 This quote relates to question #4. Except he is facing the challenge at his home country. His mind is basically split up and all of that could cause some one to become insane in a sense. He is also trying to get away from the things that he has seen. So if his new experiences old ones that would be bad. This doesn't relate to me but i could only imagine how this would feel. Question How many parts do you have in your brain?
Quote 2 This is one of the consequences of the civil war. People stop trusting each other, and every stranger becomes an enemy.” This is truly what would happen during a civil war because even though ishmael is 12 the rebels would use child soldiers in turn people would be scared that he is a spy. i cant relate to this because people don't think i am a killer and we aren't having a civil war in this country. Have you ever been looked at funny because people don't trust you?

This is what ishmael asked himself when he was facing death. This relates to question #5 except it is in his home country. I can't relate to this because i have never faced death in the way that ishmael has. Plus he must have been very strong to overcome and not break down.
Quote 2They had run so far away from the war, only to be caught back in it. There is nowhere to go from here.” This just shows that war can go anywhere and will find you if you were once part of it at some point in your life. Also you cant think you are free until you are out of that country. I cant relate to this because i have never been affected war only emotionally. Questions Have you ever been affected by war? Have you ever asked yourself a really meaningful question.

Quote #1 Morbrilla asked what day it was. We all thought about it for a while, trying to remember the name of the last day when our lives normal.
I thought this related to question #5 accept its what hardships do they face at home. Because you know its bad when you don't even know what day it is. That to me is a hardship. They have been so worried about staying alive that the boys cant remember the day. I cant really relate to this quote because even if i forget the day there is other people and calenders to remind me.
Question Would you freak out if you forgot the day and no-one would tell you?
Quote #“We must strive to be like the moon.” This quote means that people complain about the sun a lot but know-one complains about the moon. So be on a good behavior and know-one will complain about you. I can relate to this because i am usually on a good behavior when i need to be.

Lit Circle Post One

"We want strong recruits, not weak ones." The rebel said this on page 60 paragraph 2.
This is significant because the rebels are looking for people that aren't scared of blood and killing people. This relates to question #3, his role is to be a child solider and kill people. Another way it relates is it doesn't have to be his role but Ishmael is brutally forced to be this monster that he doesn't want to be.
I feel bad for Ishmael because he might not be the strongest person in the group and the rebels are killing the weak people to get the strong people "used" to blood and death. I also agree with Ishmael's actions because he ran when the rebels were distracted with the gunfire in the middle of town. Would you have ran when the rebels looked away or not? Why?

Quote#2 The rebels called this mutilation "One Love" Before the war people raised a thumb to say "One Love" To each other, An expression popularized by reggae music. Page: bottom of page 37 to top of 38.
This shows how much power music has in the country and how seriously people take what people say in the songs. It puts music in the country high on the list of what role it can play in the lives of all of the people. The significance it has on me is really the irony of it. One Love means peace and happiness not cutting each others fingers off and laughing about it. "Do you agree with the irony in this action? Why? Why not?

QUESTION 1:What does this book make you wonder about? Why?
RESPONSE 1:This book really makes me wonder how strong a relationship with a dog can be and how much you can actually learn from them. In the book he talks all the things that he learned about nature and how the dogs helped him learn all of these things. Like how to cope with certain situations and how to look at life.


QUESTION 2:What other character(s) beside the main character is really important to the story? How and why?

RESPONSE 2 I would have to say the dogs. Without the dogs there couldn't be a story to write because he talks all about the dogs and how he learns from them. Without them he wouldn't be able to sustain a living at all and it would be really hard for him. Also the dogs make it interesting and very exiting because the way he describes them makes them funny and entertaining.

Dear Mr Paulson
I think your book Woodsong is great. It is really descriptive and emotional. I really feel that I am in the book and their in Alaska. I love how you describe the sled dogs and how the squirrel gets killed by the chipmunk. Even though that part was sort of disturbing.
There are a couple of things that I didn't like. The fact that the beginning was kind of slow like hard to get into. You seem to get really descriptive and I got lost and had to read some parts over again because I am not the fastest reader. But that is the only thing that I didn't like but the rest was fantastic so far One more thing I like how you talk about the dogs its very cool. Thanks Ryan

This is my extra credit!!!
I chose question 1.
If I could put myself in the book could be a huge piece of dead weight. I hate the cold! This takes place in Alaska!! So dog sledding would be very hard for me to do. We would most likely lose a lot of races due to me complaining about the cold and being a baby. It would be really cool though to talk to Paulson about all of his adventures and all about his dogs. This to me would be cool to see his house also he describes it a little bit but doesn't go into full detail. So if I could go into the book it would be a really cool experience and I wish I could actually do it.

Name of book I want to read and why.

The book that I chose to read was woodsong by Gary Paulsen. This book looks very interesting and it is a non fiction book about his adventures and experiences while dog sledding in Alaska.It looks interesting because Alaska is a beautiful place and i didn't know that Gary Paulsen was a dog sledder.

Chapter 12 Cry of the Hunters Ralph

Dear Diary,
This morning I woke up from a dream about death and darkness creeping towards me. I woke up and was relieved that what I felt was from a dream and not reality. But about 5 seconds later, I realized I was wrong. I needed to get in the thicket as fast as I could and hide so that they don't kill me. At least the night before I got food from Eric from the feast that Jack had at his camp. Eric was being nice to me by giving me the meat. I cant believe that SamnEric would join Jacks tribe. I guess they didn't really have a choice because they were taken away but they could have gone when I told them to go. I still wonder why Roger made that stick with 2 pointed ends on it. Maybe they were going to put my head on it like the pigs head and I think it is very savage and cruel of them to do. I am so glad that I didn't get crushed by the rocks that they were using to flush me out of hiding. It probably would have killed me if I got hit by one. They also flushed me out by fire which was stupid because they burnt down half the island. I thought my hiding spot was great but then SamnEric told them all were I was. While I was running to the beach, I heard a sound and put it off to the side of my brain, then when I got to the beach I saw what it was. A Boat!!!!!!!! We all saw a man. He said “Hullo” then I talked to him for a bit. Jack came out of the bushes all torn up with the remains of a pair of glasses. Percival came with Jack but he couldn't remember his name and all of the stuff he knew before. When the man asked who the leader was, I stepped up to the plate and said I was before Jack had a chance too. The man was really disappointed in our overall performance on the island. I agree, killing two people is inexusable and wrong. At this point, I am so happy to be alive, home and writing about this from my comfortable bed.

Chapter 11 Castle Rock

1. Piggy tells Ralph that he wants to take the conch and carry it in his arms
2. He will tell jack that he is a better leader.
3. Ralph says that they should go all clean and fixed up to show that they are not savages and are better than that.
4. Roger challenges them and started to throw stones at them saying that they shouldn't come here.
5. When jack comes he is holding a spear and he just.
6. Ralph is really saying that Jack is an unfit leader and is savage and not good.
7. After the fight SamnEric decide to join Jacks tribe because Ralph is becoming crazy.
8. While Piggy is talking Roger is putting his full weight on the lever and letting the rock go.

Paragraph

I think that the evil inside of Roger is responsible for the killing of piggy. This is shown when Roger startes to throw sand and rocks at the Littuns, then spreading this evil amonge them by having Henry throw sand at Percible. This showes that Roger has evil surronding him even. Another resason is when roger is with them to kill the pig and then rapes it really. This showes that he can kill something with no resentment. All of this showes that Roger is a very savage person and is very responsible.

Chapter 10 The shell and the glasses .. Simon

Dear Diary,
This Sucks! I was killed because everyone thought I was the beast which isn’t fair at all. I should have taken the LOTF’s advice and not spoken to the boys. I would be alive right now. Ralph and Piggy’s discussion didn’t help either. They lied and said that they didn’t help to kill me.
Jack's tribe is another holocaust waiting to happen. He treats all of his people like slaves telling them to get water for him and saying if they do they will get meat. Jack doesn’t realize that he is missing the most basic things: shelter and a bathing pool. So what if hunting is fun, you can’t eat pig without fire!
I feel really bad for Ralph and his tribe because they got attacked by Jack, Roger, and Maurice. They came in the shelter and started to beat up Piggy, Ralph, and SamnEric but none of the littluns were hurt. The thing is, they took something very important. They took the thing that could get everyone rescued. They took Piggy’s glasses!

Chapter 9 A View to Death

1. The flies prefer the pigs flesh and guts instead of Simon’s.
2. Simon goes to the mountain top to see what the beast really is.
3. Simon releases the strings of the parachute to set the beast free.
4. Ralph says that they should go so they arent looked at as a lesser authority.
5. They get unified by Piggy geting burnt by the meat on the stick and everyone laughs.
6. Jack decides that the conch no longer has meaning in his tribe.
7. The weather gets really bad and it starts to rain really hard.
8. The chant they sing is “Kill the beast, cut his throat, spill his blood”.
9. Simon comes out of the jungle and tries to tell them that the beast is the dead aviator.

10. Paragraph

I think that Simon was the downfall to his own life. Simon should have taken the warning from the LOTF. Then he could have lived and not told them about the beast. He also could have waited till the next day to tell them this way he could be seen in a better light and not be mistaken for the beast.

Chapter 8 A Gift For the Darkness.

The scene that I chose is the one where Simon is talking to the Lord of the Flies.
This one to me is very scary and gruesome. In the scene the pig head is on the stick and it is bleeding and all of the flies are surrounding it. So here is how it goes in order: Jack and his hunters kill the pig and violate it. Then Jack wants to make a sacrifice to the beast so it won’t bother them. He sharpens a stick and puts one end in the ground and one end in the cut off head of the pig. And while it’s bleeding, he just leaves it with all of the guts lying on the floor. This is when Simon comes in; he is there and watched the whole thing. When he is sitting there the LOTF starts to talk to him. The LOTF tells him he is batty and how he likes Jack, Ralph, Piggy, and all of the others. But when the LOTF tells him to leave and he doesn’t, that’s when he either faints or dies. This to me is very creepy and yet I want to read on and learn more about the LOTF.

Chapter 7 Shadows and tall trees

Dear Diary

Ralph just made me realize that I am really dirty. I need to brush my teeth and get some clean water on me so I can get clean. My clothes are like cardboard its not cool at all. The game that we all play after killing the pig is very rough and dirty and very very savage. Poor Robert was getting killed by every body and he hurt his butt. That game is really dangerous I actually think that they were going to kill him at one point. And when Jack said that they could use a littlun this to me makes me think that they really do want to kill and that they will kill a fellow human being to satisfy there need.I wasn't there but I guess the boys found the beast and thought it was this huge thing but really it was a guy with a parachute. They are being stupid because they are scared and don't know hats right or wrong. I still hate the game it is stupid and bad.

Beast from the air chapter 6 "What is the beast?" Jack

Dear Diary,

It is another day on this glorious island. Everything is great but piggy whom I can’t stand we always seem to get embroiled with each other. Any way I remember Ralph saying that he wanted a message from someone a grown up or something. I guess that would mean that there would be a message in the sky or a guy. That’s it a guy fell from the sky and landed near the fire or mountain top. Mutinously I didn’t believe this because that is ludicrous I thought that was silly. I guess the boys aren’t aware of it because they aren’t that watchful for stuff like that they just listen to us and follow us of course I like that being leader is fun. Sam n Eric of course exaggerated a lot but of course it was with leviathan. They were just scared and didn’t want to admit it so they made up a huge story with claws and teeth and being able to run fast, this made me waxy because I knew it wasn’t true but being a hunter you have to show respect. The boys weren’t much help they were scared until we got there then they decided to push rocks down cliffs. After all of that I love it here I could care less if we are rescued or not I love the leadership and no grownups to tell us what to do.

Dear Diary

These days have been hard the reason I called a meeting is because we really needed to get the rules strait otherwise bad things will happen. Like the sanitary issue about people taking shorts (dumps) by the fruit or were ever they want. I think that theses concerns needed to be brought up. My relationship with jack I think is tearing all that we built apart making the island crazy. All of this isn’t good for the littluns either I can hear them crying in there sleep and it scares me because they might be going crazy and usually that leads to very bad things. I also think I know why they cry in there sleep because of the beasties they are really scared of them and they actually think they are real but really it is just there imagination. Take Percival Wemys Madison for example he is afraid of the hanging things in the trees and how he saw Simon in the dark. One reason I dislike jack is because he does the dirtiest thing a human can do he is able to kill another living thing on this earth without feeling guilty. I also hate jack because he really wants my job and I think I have changed by not trusting everyone on this island any more.
